Ivan T. Shaw. That’s me. If you want to make sure that you have the right Ivan Shaw, you may read up on some of the other Ivan Shaws I have found from poking around the Internet. I don’t want to disappoint anyone so those specifically looking for the guy who was on All My Children might want to mosey on along – whereas we might both be from the same island, I’m definitely not him.
wattacetti. Also me. Go figure.
Anyway, I am a neurobiologist by training, having focused on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and apoptotic mechanisms of neural cell death while a part of Jack Antel’s Neuroimmunology Unit. The alma mater has done a good job in posting the theses to the public domain, so you can find the Master’s thesis here and the doctoral one here. They’re not particularly interesting reading anymore and the hypothesis that my doctoral work was based on has actually been disproven by new findings since I graduated. I’m okay with that as this is the way that science is supposed to work.
I am presently active in pharma, primarily in Clinical Development and Medical Affairs, and have a very creative and ethical results-driven track record of successfully driving projects to meet established program objectives, especially when working with pediatric programs, biologics and orphan drugs.

Because I can.
No, seriously. I used to do stuff like this to supplement my grad stipend and it’s a way to keep a pinky in while having a hobby to play around with. Back in my day we used to hard-code HTML, but thanks to this little endeavor I’m getting quite adept with the Linux command line in addition to PHP and MySQL for dynamic content creation.
This site was originally set up as a food blog to let people keep up with what I was doing without resorting to my mailbombing them with photos; the blog is still there and will continue to make up most of the content but I will have specific pages on other things, like the restaurant suggestions I keep getting asked for.
There’s no particular reason to hide that I’m using the WordPress blog/CMS platform since that’s pretty obvious by reading the page source. Content creation is supplemented with components of Adobe’s Creative Suite as needed for specific tasks.
