August 16. Elvis Aaron Presley died on this date way back in 1977. If he hadn’t come face to face with the Universal Oneness, we would instead be commemorating the day as the birthday of Julie Newmar (the good Catwoman).

Oh yeah – thanks to the passing of the King, that year was also like one of the worst birthdays ever.

Also known as FoodNetwork Canada’s effort to bring about Canadian unity via Toronto-centric shadenfreude. The press blurb reads:

“Dinner Party Wars invites you to enjoy a deliciously hilarious hour of wining, dining and undermining as three couples go head to head in a ruthless, no-holds-barred dinner party competition.”

What does that mean exactly? Toronto couples battling it out for a set of pots and pans with a SRP of $1000. I can already imagine the wonderful bottles of whines being served tableside in the Centre of the Universe.

So… Wednesdays at 9pm ET/PT beginning September 1. Boy do I wish I had cable.

Where they blow is when one needs to compare results from one to another because you don’t know what equipment they have, what staff experience is available, what test kits are used, whether those kits are expired, and whether the normal ranges adequately provide appropriate reference values that allow the comparison between two labs. The last one is a particular killer because without reference normal range values, there is no comparison. Blech.

Or specifically, two film productions.

The 1998 iteration of Butter is an action film with Ernie Hudson (you may remember him as Winston). I’ve never seen it, but it apparently doesn’t involve dairy products.

The upcoming 2011 production of Butter will soon be entering principal photography and will star Yara Shahidi and a couple of warm bodies named Jennifer Garner and Hugh Jackman in a story about orphans and butter sculptures in the American Mid-West. Mmm… compelling.

I can already hear my pal Butter Boy squealing in anticipation. Or not.

Why yes. Yes it was. And that is indeed the line used by Gil Grissom in the CSI episode “4×4″. It appears to be a modified 1985 GT in gold and with the firebird pegasus insignia to boot. I spotted it and shot the photo while waiting to purchasing less-expensive fuel just before the skies opened up for that torrential downpour yesterday.

I actually wanted one when it was first released but then I graduated from high school.

[UPDATE: yes, I did misidentify the hood logo but it has been more than 20 years since high school]
