It’s Square Root Day
Or so it seems, though if I read 03-03-09, that’s more along the lines of square than square root (3 x 3 = 9).
Guess the next iteration of this will be 04-04-16 (just over seven years from now) but we can all look forward to Pi day next Saturday. I’m not going to make a pie by my pal Amy has several nice tarte recipes on her blog (see blogroll).
An interesting though rather unproductive day as I find that I spent more time spinning my wheels than anything else. So what else happened on Square Root Day:
- Synology announced updates to their NAS line (press release), including an expansion box which I haven’t seen since the early days of personal computing. Could be interesting if I saw the need to build a 20 TB drive array (okay, so there’s always a need), but the NAS and the expansion box aren’t shipping and Seagate doesn’t have their 2 TB Constellation drives shipping either.
- CIBC keeps getting hammered even though it eked out a tiny profit unlike, last year’s billion dollar “walk into a pointy stick” debacle. Good thing they continue to provide obscene dividends.
- In the “how cool is this” category, there is an upcoming paper in PNAS which describes how cells can be assembled into 3D structures (e.g. organs) using DNA as glue. Currently on ArsTechnica for the time being, but something to read in late-breaking when it comes out.
I should get around to doing more development on this website too. Lots of patches, content (!) and other things to do.
