It’s the Year of the Ox
Well, today is specifically the start of the Year of the Yin Earth Ox of the year 4706 (26-Jan-2009 for you Gregorian calendar worshippers out there) so Happy New Year everyone. An auspicious year for all since the ox is a sign of prosperity and fortitude through hard work.
If you’re following Jackie Chan Adventures, the Ox Talisman gave its possessor super-strength.
The Eve coincided oddly enough with two other events this year: the NHL’s All-Star Game and Burns’ Night. I like tripe as much as the next guy, but I’m not a big fan of lungs and I don’t particularly consider ground lung and oatmeal mash to be the culinary revelation that Scots claim it is. As for the game, I didn’t watch though I understand that it was an epic defensive struggle.
But the same-old relative to the Eve: cleaning, handing over $ and partaking in a twelve-element New Year’s meal (I made it as my parents were traveling). It’s really ten since we don’t touch the whole fish (a sea bream this year) and does one count rice as a dish? Well, maybe on a take-out menu.
Pix later.
