September 17

It’s September 17 today. It’s really dark outside, which makes sense as it’s quite early in the morning. Moi? I am personally pretty tired so what am I doing about it? I’m sitting in front of a computer writing about eggs. 雞蛋. Les oeufs. αυγό. 卵. Huevos.
I seem to be fairly pre-occupied with eggs these days. Availability of eggs, quality of eggs, number of eggs… all that good stuff. Eggs are pretty important – there’s a tradition of sorts in Taiwan whereby one gets a hardboiled egg as a birthday breakfast so that there’s an opportunity to “peel away” the previous year and reveal the upcoming year inside. Sounds good on paper, until you have to actually peel the thing. So, when you’re up face-to-face with the Universal One-ness like that, you either better be pretty darn good at peeling eggs or not be particularly superstitious.
I do know a lot about eggs, including exactly how badly I suck at making omelettes (it looks so easy in Tampopo). However, I did learn something I didn’t already know about eggs while taking the banner photo: they don’t stay still on plates, hence the ”eggs in bowl” photo.
But I digress. Other important stuff going on, like the anniversary of something that happened oh, 40 years ago. And I have a couple of really important “to-dos” today. But first things first, tamago.
